Samantha Grey - DU HeroValefar - DU Villain and Animositas (c) :iconlatroma:
Janine and the concept of the Mana Caves (c) :iconlinkatiko:  (I'll bet a few of you who follow this forgot that Janine wasn't my creation.)

This chapter is a re-telling/re-imagining of this fiction:  Pissing off a Naga.  I'll be moving that version back to the Prose Fiction section of my galleries and replacing it, effectively, with this one.  There are some variations in the storyline, largely to give a much more clear connection of Janine to this version of Samantha's reality.  The original fiction was written as a cleaned up version of an RP that Linkatiko and I did several years ago.  A lot of background and setting elements reflect the storyline and world of what I would refer to as the "Eka's Portal Canon" for Samantha, and never gelled 100% well with her story here.  The idea of her first death being eaten by a giant snake woman has always held up as the source of Samantha's fear of snakes, naga and lamia, but at the same time the actual scenario was laced with heavy-duty references to Abrienda, the Forest of Dead Mages and a whole other version of Samantha's story, wherein she becomes fully corrupted by the Seed of Envy, Abrienda, maiden of tears.

As such, I was just not 100% happy with it.  I was actually pretty pleased with how well that particular bit of fetishy nightmare fuel played out for the purposes of a quick fiction, but not necessarily with how well it linked up to Sam's story in the DU.  So, since I decided to revisit Samantha's origins and try to make the storyline of Animositas more of a cohesive unit (even if making the whole tale cohesive would be both repetitive and borderline impossible), I opted to rewrite the fiction, keeping most of the elements of the original story and trying to keep true to Janine's general personality.

I probably had her talk too much.  Seriously lazy naga, folks.

Also:  This is the last of the explicit vore, gore and implied rape you're going to get in the Animositas storyline.  It is also, as you might imagine from the fact that I put a Strict warning on this one, the most graphic of the stories.  The story of Samantha's meeting of Janine was grotesque nightmare fuel, body horror and as she at one point puts it, borderline gratuitous.  It's a style of writing that I've veered away from with Samantha's stories in more recent years, but it's not one that I avoid completely.  Her story isn't supposed to be pretty, even if she's managed to get her life turned around in the current arcs.  There are reasons that she has issues with her life and with trusting people.  Chapters like this are some of those reasons.
