Alright, we're skipping the real effort to convince the team. I apologize to Goyle, who would have gotten a bit more screen time. In some ways, this series should really have taken about an entire episode, maybe 2-3 to 'really' do the old fashioned way, but as it is, it's a 60 page behemoth and longer than anything I've written, so I'm juuuuust going to cut a couple corners: Namely the details of how each actual team member was selected for this job and precisely what was used to convince the team.
6 hours later, a rag tag team of reprobates have been gathered, nine in all. Two from the Thunder Force are going in, along with 7 volunteers from an earlier sign up. To this, Rufus has a very apt question: Why not send more of the Thunder Force on this mission? After all, it is a Thunder Force problem, even if he has some small stake in the matter. This gave me a chance to bring out a couple realities, all of which play to the September Challenge and some work of other authors.
In Essence - the Thunder Force is short-staffed for the crap hitting the fan right now:
-The Mighty American and Mr Happy just got back to active duty in time for the Summer Challenge. Added to this, MA is on his last clone and last life. The US Brass may be willing to send him on some high risk missions, but straight into hell? That's a bit much.
-Loa is out cold ( Adapt1 and for more info), and we have no way of knowing if and when she'll be back to fighting speed.
-Samantha, obviously, is currently busy being "dead."
-And somebody opened a black hole on earth just recently ( ). No matter how much that incident seems to have settled itself, the truth is that Thunder Force can't ignore a singularity opening up in the terrestrial sphere for longer than one of spitfire's bullets (much smaller scale).
The TF has been running tryouts, but it needs help, and it knows it. In truth, it almost can't afford to lose another member right now, and so they're only able to send two in, while calling on old favors from friends and allies and recruiting whoever they can get access to early. Thankfully, it seems Sam has built up a few friends by some miracle. Can this band of heroes boldly go where only myth and legend have gone before?

I've been meaning to ask: What's up with the shades?
Rufus doesn't wear shades. Never has
