Description

Special Opportunity:  If your character in the DU was alive and active at any point from the 1940s through the 1970s, and has reason to have run afoul of, or had dealings with an ancient, fiercely independent and violent woman like Kierra, toss me a private message.  We can discuss possible connections.

Name:  Kierra Liath
Alias:  The Black Seer
Gender:  Female
Species:  Human
Race:  Celt
Birthplace:  On the banks of Lough Ree, Ireland
Birthdate:  21 April, 1913 (Age 101)
Height:  5'4"
Weight: 125 lb
Family:  Caiside Liath - Husband (Deceased), Naomi Grey - Daughter (Deceased), Samantha Grey - Granddaughter

Personality:  Kierra Liath is a driven, xenophobic woman obsessed with maintaining what she calls "The sanctity of the Kings under the Hill."  She is one of the last vestiges of the ancient druidic cults of the pre-historical British Isles and a fanatically devoted worshiper of the Tuatha de Danaan.  A hard, cold and cruel woman, she has little time for backtalk, humor or sass, and almost no respect for anyone not of pureblooded celtic descent.  She is capable of unspeakable things in the name of preserving the sanctity of the small series of mountains that she calls "home," though she is not necessarily prone to actively seeking out excuses to harm others.  So long as they stay out of her concerns, Kierra has learned to tolerate the presence of non-celts on "her island."  It has been a long, slow road to reach this point, and there are vast amounts of blood on her hands as a result.

It is difficult to clearly classify her as either "Villain" or "Hero."  Her goal is debatably a noble one, though also one that she rarely communicates clearly with others, save "Go away trespasser.  This be holy ground."  The "Kings under the Hill" are, if her ravings are remotely accurate, the last vestiges of the ancient children of Danu who have not risen from their slumber or departed the hallowed fields of Tir na Nog.  As guardian of the sacred charge, her keeping of the land as inviolate ensures that the oftentimes capricious gods do not return in wrath to exact vengeance for perceived slights.  She is not pro-active in seeking to do anything more than keep the land inviolate as well, meaning that the scale of her villainy is only so large as those who enter her territory normally, given how rare it is for her to depart.

At the same time, Kierra is basically amoral towards any who oppose her.  She doesn't torture.  She destroys, without a shred of hesitation.  She has no patience and less tolerance than some of the most xenophobically racist individuals in history within a few specific fields of influence.  She is cruel, manipulative and cold-hearted, calculating in the extreme.  Laws, people, nothing matters to her save her charge and the thin regard she has for her blood.

History:  born in the wake of the first world war, Kierra is a harbinger of a forgotten time.  Raised by other pure-blooded celts in lands deep within Ireland, she has seen the last lingering vestiges of her culture dwindle and die.  Sons and daughters were sent to war by the British in the North.  Disease ravaged others, and lack of fortune claimed still more.  By the 1940s, Kierra and a small band of about ten other neophytes were all that was left, and she the only being of any real power in their midst.  Something in her snapped when the dog tags of her last living cousin were brought back from the Bulge, where he had met his end.  The young woman's eyes hardened and she ordered those who now followed her to seal the boundaries and let none not of the blood pass.

What followed was a clandestine war, one that became occasionally embroiled in the ongoing conflict between Ireland and Northern Ireland.  Any developer who sought out the hills that the cadre protected was slaughtered without mercy.  Police who investigated were murdered one and all, their heads left on pikes in distant woods as warnings.  Interpol sought and killed several of her number but could never find the last six, each of them growing more jaded by the year.  By the time of the Sovereign War in the early to mid 1960s, things were looking bleak for both their plight and humanity at large.  In the wake of the Sovereign War, Kierra wielded her magics to great effect in keeping any threat away from Irish soil, and during this period she became pregnant with her first and only daughter, Naomi.  It was, perhaps, the one moment where she saw any hope in the world at large, causing her to agree reluctantly to aid the final push against the Sovereign threat in 1965, alongside the titan series defenders such as Vanguard ((c) :iconthedude255:).  Her actions earned her a pardon for past crimes.

However, in the decade after the war, Kierra became embittered quickly and resumed her criminal activities.  Most kept away from the land, but she increasingly widened the regions that she patrolled in an effort to keep any impure blood away, attempting to instill in her daughter the same ideals.  She recruited new followers of the blood of the celts and aided the IRA in its efforts, not out of any solidarity, but to reclaim the island for one government of its own people.  After her husband's passing, however, Naomi fled her company under suspect circumstances.  The "Black Seer" supposedly disappeared entirely in this period and was thought dead, her small cell of operatives going into quiet remission to avoid police scrutiny.

In 2014, however, rumors began to resurface that the Black Seer was not dead, as impossible as it might have seemed... and that she was now seeking something, or someone.  Powerful wards were already in place to do her work without her presence, but the woman's attentions had once more begun to focus globally.

Looks like she will be a very interesting character. I'm looking forwards to seeing what part she will play in the upcoming events of the Deviant Universe. I'm wondering how Hunt might react seeing The Black Seer return after believing her to be dead :P
